Sound Proofing

sound1.bmp (65190 bytes)There are two types of sound penetrations that must be addressed in a multiple housing development -- one is air borne noise and the second is impact noise. Grandin Green's walls and floors are designed to significantly mitigate noise transmission between suites using up to date materials, design and technology. The wall system will be designed to meet a sound transmission class of 55 (STC 55).

In addition the building's floor is being designed to have an impact isolation class rating of 54 (IIC 54) , which should minimize any impact transmission from suite to suite.

Achieving these high standards requires not only a departure from conventional building technology and materials but a great attention to detail during construction.

While the bedrooms and dens are finished with carpet with underlay which meets our impact isolation requirements, the remaining areas are finished with an engineered wood plank flooring or marmoleum. In floorcross.gif (3780 bytes) order to meet the IIC target, these areas first have a special acoustic cork mat installed. Over this mat is placed the floating cork/wood veneer floating floor or the marmoleum.

The result of this detail is a floor which is designed to mitigate the impact noises associated with the use of hard flooring in apartment buildings.

All this attention to this particularly sensitive area will translate into exceptionally quieter enjoyment and happier neighbors!
