What is "green" housing?

Current architectural thinking sees it as addressing five basic areas: 

  • a healthful interior environment
  • energy efficiency
  • using ecologically benign materials
  • environmental sensitivity
  • good design
  • facilitates interaction between neighbors
  • create a sense of community.

Conventional apartment complexes, although efficient in their use of land, are extremely inefficient to operate in that they typically consume approximately 30 percent more energy than do single family homes. Grandin Green is designed to be an energy efficient, environmentally friendly building and as such is designed to consume approximately 50 percent less energy and resources than a conventional apartment building.
